Question 1

Does a modified Abarth need to be approved at the ITV?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In Spain, changes such as an aftermarket exhaust, lowered suspension or larger wheels count as modifications that must be approved and recorded at the ITV. Without that, the car can fail its next inspection and the insurer may dispute a claim.

Question 2

What should I know about the Abarth 595 gearbox options?

Accepted Answer

Besides the manual, the 595 was offered with the MTA, an automated single-clutch gearbox that shifts more slowly than a conventional automatic. On the test drive, check for smooth changes, and ask about the clutch, which wears on both versions.

Question 3

Which DGT environmental label does an Abarth carry?

Accepted Answer

The petrol 595, 695 and 124 Spider normally get the C label. The electric 500e and 600e carry the CERO label, which gives access to every low-emission zone in Spanish cities.

Question 4

Is the Abarth 124 Spider really a Mazda?

Accepted Answer

The 124 Spider was built by Mazda alongside the MX-5 and shares its chassis and body structure. Its engine, however, is Fiat's 1.4 MultiAir turbo, so engine parts and know-how come through Fiat and Abarth workshops.
