Question 1

Is a plug-in hybrid Volvo worth it in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Only if you can charge it regularly, at home, at work or on the Mobi.E network. Driven mostly on petrol, a T6 or T8 Recharge carries the weight of its battery around and uses more fuel than expected.

Question 2

How do I check the battery of a used Volvo Recharge?

Accepted Answer

Ask a Volvo dealer for a battery report and compare the electric range on a full charge with what the model offered new. Check how much of the battery warranty remains and that the charging cable comes with the car.

Question 3

Does a fully electric Volvo pay IUC?

Accepted Answer

No. Fully electric cars such as the EX30 or the electric XC40 are exempt from the IUC in Portugal. Plug-in hybrids and combustion models pay it according to engine size and CO2 emissions.

Question 4

What should I know about importing a used Volvo into Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A car brought in from another country pays ISV when it is registered in Portugal, and the amount depends on engine size and CO2 emissions. Compare that cost with a Volvo already on Portuguese plates before buying abroad.

Question 5

Is a diesel Volvo still a sensible choice in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

For long motorway runs a D4 or D5 remains economical, but a diet of short city trips is hard on its particulate filter. Many newer diesels also use AdBlue, which has to be topped up.
