Question 1

Is every Volvo Recharge an electric car?

Accepted Answer

No. Volvo used the Recharge name both for its battery-electric models and for its T6 and T8 plug-in hybrids, which also have a petrol engine. A fully electric XC40 or C40 Recharge has no exhaust and no fuel filler, and its registration certificate lists electricity as the fuel.

Question 2

What is the difference between the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the EX40?

Accepted Answer

They are the same electric SUV under a new name: Volvo renamed the XC40 Recharge as the EX40, and the C40 Recharge as the EC40. Used examples are therefore offered under both names.

Question 3

Do electric Volvos pay ISV or IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No. Battery-electric cars are exempt from ISV and from the annual IUC, so an electric Volvo carries no road tax. The periodic IPO inspection still applies.

Question 4

What should I check on a used electric Volvo?

Accepted Answer

Ask a Volvo workshop for a battery health report and how much of the battery warranty remains from the date of first registration. On a test drive, check that the infotainment and its software updates work, since much of the car is controlled through the central screen.
