Which SEAT petrol engine is the most reliable?

The belt-driven 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI have a solid record when servicing has been kept up. On the 1.2 and 1.4 TSI built before 2012, check that the timing chain has been replaced.

Does a petrol SEAT pay less IUC road tax than a diesel SEAT?

Usually yes: the IUC on cars registered since 2007 depends on engine size and CO2 emissions, and diesels pay a surcharge on top. A SEAT 1.0 TSI normally sits in a low band.

Is the SEAT Leon 1.5 eTSI a hybrid?

The 1.5 eTSI is a 48-volt mild hybrid, always paired with the DSG automatic gearbox. It assists pulling away and lets the engine switch off while coasting, but the Leon cannot run on electricity alone.

The three-cylinder 1.0 TSI powers the Ibiza and Arona, the 1.5 TSI the Leon and Ateca. On SEATs from 2008 to 2012, the early 1.2 and 1.4 TSI had timing chains that stretched, so proof of a replacement is reassuring.
