Question 1

Which gearbox does an automatic SEAT use?

Accepted Answer

Almost all of them use DSG, a dual-clutch gearbox shared with Volkswagen, Škoda and Audi. Smaller petrol engines get the seven-speed dry-clutch version, while stronger petrol and diesel engines use a wet-clutch unit that copes with more torque.

Question 2

What should I check on a used SEAT DSG gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Pull away from a standstill several times and creep along in slow traffic: hesitation, jerking or judder points to clutch or mechatronic wear. A wet-clutch DSG needs periodic oil changes, so look for them in the service record.

Question 3

Is there an automatic SEAT plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Leon and Tarraco e-Hybrid combine a petrol engine with an electric motor and a six-speed DSG. Check that the charging cable comes with the car and how much electric range the battery still delivers.

Question 4

Does an automatic gearbox change the IUC?

Accepted Answer

No, Portugal's annual IUC depends on engine size and CO2 emissions, not on the gearbox. For cars registered since July 2007, a version with lower emissions pays less every year.
