Question 1

Is the Megane's 1.5 dCi a reliable engine?

Accepted Answer

It is economical and widespread, shared with Dacia and Nissan models. It does not tolerate overdue oil changes, so a complete service record matters more here than on most cars.

Question 2

Is the Megane E-Tech the same car as the Megane?

Accepted Answer

No. The Megane E-Tech Electric arrived in 2022 as a battery-electric crossover on its own platform, whereas the combustion Megane is a conventional hatchback or estate. Being electric, it is exempt from IUC in Portugal.

Question 3

How much IUC does a Megane pay?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the registration date. Cars registered from July 2007 are taxed on engine size and CO2 emissions, so a small diesel pays relatively little, while older ones are taxed on engine size and age.

Question 4

What should I check at the Registo Automóvel before buying a Megane?

Accepted Answer

That the seller is the registered owner and that no finance company holds a reserva de propriedade over the car. A Megane imported from abroad also pays ISV before it receives Portuguese plates.
