Question 1

Which Opel engines need extra checks?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 turbo three-cylinder petrol used since Opel joined PSA has a timing belt running in oil, which must be replaced on schedule. Older CDTI diesels should be checked for EGR valve and particulate filter problems, especially after a life of short trips.

Question 2

What does buying from a private seller in Braga involve?

Accepted Answer

You and the seller register the change of owner at the Registo Automóvel, online or at a registry office, and the seller hands over the vehicle documents. Before paying, check that the IPO is valid and that the current year's IUC has been paid.

Question 3

Does an imported Opel cost more to register?

Accepted Answer

A used Opel brought in from another country pays ISV before it can be registered in Portugal, based on engine size and CO2 emissions with a reduction for age. When buying an import, check that the asking price already includes it.

Question 4

Is the Opel Combo a car or a van?

Accepted Answer
