Question 1

Is a used Opel Astra Sports Tourer a sensible buy?

Accepted Answer

It offers a large boot for a compact car and is easy to find, often with economical diesel engines. Many were company cars with high mileage, so ask for the servicing records and check the interior wear against the odometer.

Question 2

What should I check on an Opel driven around Porto?

Accepted Answer

The steep streets of the centre wear clutches and brakes, so try a hill start and watch for the clutch slipping. Cars parked near the sea in Foz or Matosinhos are worth inspecting underneath for rust.

Question 3

Is the Opel Zafira still worth considering?

Accepted Answer

For a large family on a tight budget it remains one of the cheaper seven-seaters, and the Zafira Tourer was made until 2019. Check that the third-row seats fold and lock properly.

Question 4

How much IUC does a used Opel pay?

Accepted Answer

It depends on when the car was first registered: from July 2007 the tax follows engine size and CO2 emissions, before that engine size and age. A small petrol Corsa sits at the low end and a large diesel Insignia towards the top.
