Question 1

What should I check on a used Nissan Leaf?

Accepted Answer

Battery condition matters most, since the Leaf's pack is air-cooled and loses range with age and heat. Ask for a battery health report and check that rapid charging works through the CHAdeMO socket, which the Leaf uses instead of CCS.

Question 2

Are Nissan CVT gearboxes reliable?

Accepted Answer

The Xtronic CVT fitted to many Qashqai, Juke and X-Trail models holds up well when its fluid has been changed on schedule. On a test drive, listen for whining and feel for judder or hesitation when pulling away, especially on Porto's steep streets.

Question 3

Does an electric Nissan pay IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No, fully electric cars such as the Leaf are exempt from IUC, the annual road tax. Petrol and diesel Nissans pay it according to engine size and CO2 emissions, so a smaller engine usually costs less each year.

Question 4

How is ownership transferred when buying a Nissan in Porto?

Accepted Answer

The change of owner is recorded at the Registo Automóvel, online or at a registry office in the city. A dealer usually handles it for you; in a private sale, buyer and seller file the request together.
