Question 1

What do One, Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works mean on a Mini?

Accepted Answer

They are power levels: One is the entry version, Cooper the mainstream one, Cooper S the sporty model and John Cooper Works the most powerful. A D after the name, as in Cooper D, marks a diesel.

Question 2

Which Mini suits a family?

Accepted Answer

The five-door hatch, the Clubman estate with its split rear doors and the Countryman SUV all offer more rear space and a bigger boot than the three-door. The Countryman is the roomiest and is also sold with ALL4 all-wheel drive.

Question 3

How are IUC and ISV worked out for a used Mini in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

For cars registered since July 2007, the yearly IUC depends on engine size and CO2 emissions, and diesels pay an extra charge. A Mini on foreign plates pays ISV, also based on engine size and emissions, before registration at the Registo Automóvel; fully electric Minis are exempt from both.

Question 4

Why do so many Minis have run-flat tyres?

Accepted Answer

Most have no spare wheel, so many left the factory on run-flat tyres, which let you keep driving a short distance after a puncture. They ride more firmly and cost more to replace; some owners switch to normal tyres and carry a repair kit.
