Which Mini Cooper D engine is the most reliable?

The F56's 1.5 three-cylinder has a better record than the R56's 1.6 units, whose early versions suffered timing chain and turbo problems. Either way, ask for a history of regular oil changes.

Is a diesel Mini Cooper a good city car?

Not really: short trips stop the particulate filter from regenerating and can lead to costly repairs. For mostly urban driving, a petrol Mini Cooper suits better.

Is the Mini Cooper SD much more powerful than the Cooper D?

Yes, the Cooper SD's 2.0 accelerates noticeably harder than the Cooper D's 1.5 and feels close to a petrol Cooper S. It uses a little more fuel and pays more IUC because of its larger engine.
