Does the new Mini Cooper come with a manual gearbox?

No, the generation launched in 2024 is automatic or electric only. A manual Mini Cooper means an R56 (2006–2013) or an F56 (2014–2024).

What should I check on a manual Mini Cooper's clutch?

Check that the clutch bites cleanly and does not slip in third gear under hard acceleration, since clutches wear faster in town traffic. On an F56, a rattle at idle that stops when the clutch is pressed can point to the dual-mass flywheel.

Is a manual Mini Cooper cheaper to run than an automatic?

It is usually simpler, with no gearbox oil changes or mechatronic repairs to budget for. In heavy city traffic, though, many drivers find the automatic easier.
