Question 1

What are the common faults on a used Range Rover?

Accepted Answer

The air suspension is the main concern: leaking air springs, a tired compressor or valve-block faults show up as a car sitting low or as warning messages. Electrical and infotainment faults are also common, so test every function and ask for a diagnostic scan at a Land Rover specialist.

Question 2

Which Range Rover generation should I look at?

Accepted Answer

The L322 is the oldest and cheapest to buy but the costliest to keep reliable. The L405 from 2013 brought a much lighter aluminium body, and the L460 from 2022 is the current model, with plug-in hybrids offering a longer electric range.

Question 3

Is a plug-in hybrid Range Rover worth it in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

The P400e and later plug-in hybrids have far lower official CO2 than the diesels and V8s, which lowers the annual IUC. An imported plug-in hybrid can also qualify for reduced ISV if it meets the electric-range and emissions conditions, and short daily trips can run on electricity alone.

Question 4

How is IUC calculated on an older Range Rover?

Accepted Answer

Cars first registered before July 2007, including many L322 models, fall into IUC category A, based on engine size and age, which usually costs less than the CO2-based category B. Later cars pay on engine size and CO2, with a surcharge for diesels.
