Question 1

Can I drive a Ford Transit on a car licence?

Accepted Answer

A category B licence covers vehicles up to 3,500 kg gross weight, which includes most Transit vans. Heavier versions need a C1 licence. The gross weight is shown on the Portuguese registration document.

Question 2

How often does a used Transit need an IPO?

Accepted Answer

A Transit registered as a light goods vehicle has its first inspection two years after registration and then one every year. A minibus registered for passengers follows the passenger-car schedule instead. The category appears on the registration document.

Question 3

How is IUC calculated for a Transit?

Accepted Answer

A goods-registered Transit over 2,500 kg falls into IUC category C, which is set by gross weight rather than engine size and CO2. Minibuses registered as passenger cars are taxed like cars. The tax is due every year in the month of registration.

Question 4

What should I check on a high-mileage Transit diesel?

Accepted Answer

Recent EcoBlue diesels use AdBlue, so look for warning lights and a working dosing system. On manual vans, a heavy or juddering clutch can point to a worn clutch or dual-mass flywheel, and the sliding door and load floor show how hard the van has worked.

Question 5

Is there an electric Ford Transit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the E-Transit is the fully electric version of the large Transit. It suits urban delivery work, where short daily distances stay comfortably within the battery's range.
