Question 1

Does the Ford Focus manual have clutch problems?

Accepted Answer

The clutch is not a known weak point of the manual Focus, unlike the Powershift dual-clutch automatic. Wear depends mostly on use, and a lot of city driving shortens its life. A heavy pedal or a slipping clutch should be checked before buying.

Question 2

Which Ford Focus manual engine is the most reliable?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0 TDCi and 1.5 EcoBlue diesels have a good reputation when servicing has been kept up, though the particulate filter suffers in purely urban use. The 1.0 EcoBoost petrol is economical, but early units had cooling problems and its oil-immersed timing belt needs oil changes on time.

Question 3

Which Ford Focus generations came with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

All four Focus generations had a manual gearbox: the first from 1998 to 2004, the second until 2011, the third until 2018 and the fourth since then. The third was facelifted in 2014, and the fourth brought the EcoBlue diesel and the mild hybrid.
