Question 1

Is a DS a Citroën?

Accepted Answer

DS started as Citroën's premium range and has been a separate brand within the same group since the mid-2010s. Early DS3, DS4 and DS5 cars are registered as Citroëns, which matters when you check the documents.

Question 2

What should I check on a DS with the 1.2 PureTech engine?

Accepted Answer

Its timing belt runs in engine oil and can wear early, so ask when it was last replaced and whether the correct oil was used. A recent belt change backed by invoices is a good sign.

Question 3

Where can a DS be serviced in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

DS shares engines and parts with Citroën, Peugeot and Opel, so any workshop familiar with the group's cars can service most models. Parts are easy to find as a result.

Question 4

Are DS E-Tense hybrids cheap to tax?

Accepted Answer

IUC for cars registered since July 2007 depends on displacement and CO2, and plug-in hybrids have low official CO2 figures. Fully electric versions such as the DS 3 E-Tense are exempt from IUC.
