Question 1

What is the difference between sDrive and xDrive on a BMW X1?

Accepted Answer

sDrive drives two wheels and xDrive all four. On the E84 sDrive means rear-wheel drive, and from the F48 onwards it means front-wheel drive. xDrive adds grip on wet or loose roads at the cost of some weight and fuel.

Question 2

Which BMW X1 generation offers the most space?

Accepted Answer

The F48, sold from 2015 to 2022, moved to a transverse engine layout that freed up rear legroom and boot space compared with the E84. The U11, launched in 2022, keeps that layout and adds the electric iX1.

Question 3

How much IUC does a used BMW X1 pay?

Accepted Answer

For cars registered from July 2007 the IUC depends on engine capacity and CO2 emissions, so a diesel and a plug-in hybrid X1 pay different amounts. The electric iX1 is exempt. The Portal das Finanças has a simulator for the exact figure.

Question 4

What should I check on a BMW X1 plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

The xDrive25e's battery loses some capacity with age, so compare its electric range on a full charge with what the seller claims. Make sure the charging cable comes with the car.
