Question 1

What should I check on a used Audi TDI in Braga?

Accepted Answer

A TDI used mainly for short town trips can clog its diesel particulate filter, so ask how the car was driven and look for warning lights. On newer TDIs fitted with AdBlue, check that the system works without errors.

Question 2

Is quattro worth having around Braga?

Accepted Answer

Quattro all-wheel drive adds grip on wet, steep roads in Minho and the Gerês, but it adds weight and raises fuel consumption. For mostly urban driving in Braga, a front-wheel-drive Audi is cheaper to run.

Question 3

Many Audis on sale are imported: what does that mean?

Accepted Answer

A car imported into Portugal pays ISV before receiving Portuguese plates, and that cost is normally already in the price of a car registered here. Ask for the import documents and confirm the ownership at the Registo Automóvel.

Question 4

How often does a used Audi need an IPO inspection?

Accepted Answer

Passenger cars in Portugal have their first IPO four years after registration and are inspected periodically after that. Check that the certificate is valid before the sale, since an expired one means arranging the inspection yourself.
