Question 1

What does TFSI e mean on an Audi?

Accepted Answer

It is Audi's badge for a plug-in hybrid: a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery charged from the mains. The number in front, such as 40, 50 or 55, indicates a power band rather than the engine size.

Question 2

What is an Audi mild hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A small electric system that assists the engine and recovers energy when slowing, but cannot move the car on its own. It saves a little fuel and never needs charging, unlike a TFSI e plug-in.

Question 3

Why ask how a plug-in Audi was charged?

Accepted Answer

A plug-in hybrid only saves fuel when it is charged regularly. One run mostly on petrol has carried a heavy battery for little benefit, so ask how often it was plugged in and check that its charging cable comes with it.

Question 4

Does a hybrid Audi pay IUC and ISV in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

It pays IUC like a combustion car, as only battery-electric cars are exempt. On import or first registration, hybrids and plug-in hybrids can get a reduced ISV when conditions on electric range and CO2 are met.
