Question 1

What is the Xtronic gearbox in a Nissan?

Accepted Answer

Xtronic is Nissan's continuously variable transmission, which has no fixed gears and keeps the engine at a steady speed while accelerating. Ask whether its fluid has been changed as the service schedule requires, and listen for whining or judder on the test drive.

Question 2

Is a Nissan Qashqai e-Power a hybrid or an electric car?

Accepted Answer

It is a hybrid: the petrol engine never drives the wheels and only charges a small battery that feeds an electric motor. It needs no plug, drives like an electric car with no gear changes, and gets Crit'Air 1.

Question 3

Which automatic Nissans are fully electric?

Accepted Answer

The Leaf and the Ariya are fully electric and use a single-speed transmission, so there is no gearbox to wear. On these, the battery health report matters more than anything else, and both get Crit'Air 0.

Question 4

What should I check on a dual-clutch Nissan?

Accepted Answer

The dual-clutch box on some petrol Juke and Qashqai models should pull away smoothly and shift without jerking in slow traffic. Hesitation or shuddering when moving off can point to clutch wear.
