Question 1

Which Crit'Air sticker does a petrol Nissan get?

Accepted Answer

A petrol car first registered from 2011 gets Crit'Air 1, and one from 2006 to 2010 gets Crit'Air 2. Petrol cars fare better than diesels of the same age, which matters for entering the low-emission zones of large French cities.

Question 2

Is the Nissan 1.2 DIG-T engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

This 1.2 turbo, shared with Renault and fitted to the Qashqai, Juke and Pulsar in the mid-2010s, has a reputation for burning oil on some cars. Check the oil level, ask how often it has been topped up and look for blue smoke at start-up.

Question 3

What should I know about the Nissan Xtronic automatic?

Accepted Answer

Xtronic is a continuously variable transmission. Ask whether its fluid has been changed and, on a test drive, watch for judder, whining or hesitation when pulling away. A smooth, quiet gearbox is a good sign.

Question 4

Petrol or diesel for a used Qashqai?

Accepted Answer

For mostly short urban trips petrol suits better, as a diesel's particulate filter needs regular long runs. A petrol car also gets a better Crit'Air class for its age.
