Question 1

Does an electric automatic MG have a gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Not in the usual sense: the MG4, MG5 and ZS EV use a single fixed reduction gear, so there is no clutch or gear change to wear. What deserves attention is the battery's state of health and how the car charges.

Question 2

How long is the warranty on an automatic MG, and does it pass to the next owner?

Accepted Answer

MG gives a seven-year manufacturer warranty on its recent models in France, subject to a mileage limit, and it stays with the car when it is sold. Check the first registration date and that servicing followed the schedule, which the warranty usually requires.

Question 3

What should I check on an automatic MG HS with the dual-clutch gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Try it from a standstill and in slow traffic: hesitation, judder or jerky shifts at low speed point to a gearbox that needs attention. Ask whether the transmission has had a software update or an oil change.

Question 4

Which Crit'Air sticker does an automatic MG get?

Accepted Answer

Electric MGs get the green zero-emission Crit'Air sticker, the best category. Hybrid, plug-in hybrid and recent petrol versions get Crit'Air 1, the next one down.
