Question 1

What should I check on a used Mercedes-Benz cabriolet roof?

Accepted Answer

Open and close it several times with the engine running and watch for hesitation or warning messages, which can point to the hydraulics or sensors. Then check the fabric for wear at the folds, and the carpets and boot for signs of water.

Question 2

What are Airscarf and Aircap on a Mercedes convertible?

Accepted Answer

Airscarf blows warm air from the headrests onto the occupants' necks, and Aircap is a deflector above the windscreen that reduces buffeting. Both were optional on recent Mercedes-Benz cabriolets, so check the specification of the car in question rather than assuming they are fitted.

Question 3

Which Crit'Air sticker does a Mercedes-Benz cabriolet get?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the fuel and the Euro emissions standard on the carte grise: recent petrol models get Crit'Air 1, recent diesels Crit'Air 2, and older cars a higher number. In low-emission zones a higher number means more restrictions.

Question 4

Does a used cabriolet need a contrôle technique to be sold?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if it is more than four years old: the seller must provide a contrôle technique report less than six months old. The test checks the bodywork and lights like any car, but it says nothing about how well the roof seals.
