What is the Kia iMT gearbox?

It is a six-speed manual with an electronically controlled clutch, fitted to some 48-volt mild hybrid Kias. It lets the engine shut down while coasting, but you still change gear with a clutch pedal.

Is a manual Kia cheaper to run than an automatic?

Usually, yes: a manual costs less to buy and needs no gearbox fluid changes, and a clutch is cheaper than a DCT repair. In heavy town traffic an automatic is more comfortable.

What should I check on a used Kia manual?

Test the clutch bite point and listen for a whining gearbox on the motorway. On a Kia still under its seven-year warranty, servicing on schedule keeps the gearbox covered.
