Question 1

How do I check the battery of a used electric car?

Accepted Answer

Ask for a battery state-of-health (SoH) certificate, which a dealer or an independent diagnostic can produce. Compare the real range with the range announced when new, keeping in mind that cold weather lowers it.

Question 2

What does battery rental mean on a used electric Renault Zoe?

Accepted Answer

Many Zoe were sold with the battery rented under a monthly contract, separate from the car. If so, the buyer takes over the contract or buys the battery out where the lessor allows it, so settle which applies before agreeing a price.

Question 3

Is the battery still under warranty on a second-hand electric car?

Accepted Answer

Most manufacturers cover the battery for eight years, often with a cap of around 160,000 km, and the warranty usually passes to the next owner. The date of first registration on the carte grise tells you how much remains.

Question 4

Can I charge an electric car at home if I live in a flat?

Accepted Answer

In a French copropriété, residents have the right to install a charging point at their parking space, known as the droit à la prise. The request goes through the syndic, which can only refuse it for a serious reason.
