Question 1

What is the difference between Easy-R and a true automatic?

Accepted Answer

Easy-R is a manual gearbox whose clutch and gear changes are worked by actuators, so shifts are slower and the car can nod as it changes. The CVT, EDC and hybrid gearboxes of later Dacias are much smoother in town.

Question 2

Why does the Dacia Sandero CVT hold the revs when accelerating?

Accepted Answer

A CVT varies its ratio continuously instead of changing gears, so under hard acceleration the engine holds high revs while the speed rises. That is normal; jolts or a slipping feeling at a steady speed are not.

Question 3

How does the Dacia Hybrid 140 drive?

Accepted Answer

It pairs a petrol engine with two electric motors and a clutchless multi-mode gearbox, and often pulls away on electric power alone in town. It recharges itself on the move, needs no plug and gets the Crit'Air 1 sticker.

Question 4

What should I check on an automatic Duster?

Accepted Answer

The EDC dual-clutch fitted to the Duster should pull away smoothly and shift without jerks at low speed, where wear shows first. Diesel dCi EDC versions get Crit'Air 2, petrol TCe EDC versions Crit'Air 1.
