Which gearbox does the automatic BMW X1 use?

It depends on the generation. The E84 uses a conventional automatic, the F48 a seven-speed dual-clutch on most petrol versions and an eight-speed automatic on the diesels, and the current X1 a seven-speed dual-clutch across its combustion engines.

Is the BMW X1 dual-clutch gearbox reliable?

The X1's seven-speed dual-clutch is generally sound, though some owners report hesitation when moving off or manoeuvring at low speed. On a test drive, check smooth starts and parking manoeuvres, and ask whether software updates were applied at a dealer.

Is the current BMW X1 available with a manual gearbox?

No: the X1 sold since late 2022 comes only with an automatic. A manual X1 in France will be an E84 or an F48, usually with a smaller petrol or diesel engine.
