Is the Smart fortwo 451 automatic gearbox reliable?

It is simple and durable, but the clutch actuator and the clutch itself are common replacements. Jerky changes are normal for this gearbox; slipping or failing to engage a gear is not.

What is the twinamic gearbox in the Smart fortwo?

It is the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox of the 453 fortwo, launched in 2015. It changes gear without the pauses of the earlier automated manual and is the best choice for an automatic petrol fortwo.

Is the electric Smart fortwo automatic?

Yes, the fortwo electric drive and EQ fortwo have a single ratio and no gearbox. They are the smoothest way to drive a fortwo in traffic.
