Question 1

Which Peugeot 208 automatic should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Prefer the torque-converter EAT6 or EAT8 to the older ETG automated manual, which shifts slowly and can lurch in traffic. On a test drive in Porto, try a hill start to see how the gearbox copes.

Question 2

How do I tell the two Peugeot 208 generations apart?

Accepted Answer

The first generation, sold from 2012 and facelifted in 2015, has a rounder front end. The second, from 2019, has fang-shaped daytime running lights, claw-pattern rear lights and an electric e-208 version.

Question 3

What does a used Peugeot 208 diesel need?

Accepted Answer

BlueHDi engines use AdBlue, so check that the system works without warnings on the dash. Short trips can clog the particulate filter, so a diesel suits drivers who regularly head out on the A1, A3 or A4.

Question 4

Who handles the paperwork after buying in Porto?

Accepted Answer

A dealer normally registers the change of owner at the Registo Automóvel, and the sale carries a legal guarantee. In a private sale you complete the registration with the seller, after checking that the IPO certificate is valid.
