Does the diesel Peugeot 208 need AdBlue?

The BlueHDi versions, which replaced the HDi in the first generation from 2015, use AdBlue, as does the second generation's 1.5. The older HDi and e-HDi engines have no such system.

Which is the most reliable diesel engine in the Peugeot 208?

The first generation's 1.6 BlueHDi has a good reputation for durability when it has been serviced on time. On the 1.5 BlueHDi, the points to watch are the AdBlue system and the particulate filter.

Is a diesel Peugeot 208 suitable for town driving only?

It is not the best choice. On short trips the particulate filter cannot regenerate and may clog, and the fuel saving over a PureTech only pays off with high mileage.

From €3,950 to €24,990, half under €11,950 · Typically 2019 with 129,700 km. The first-generation 208 had the 1.4 HDi and the 1.6 HDi and BlueHDi; the second uses the 1.5 BlueHDi with AdBlue. These engines suit open-road driving: on short town trips the particulate filter never regenerates and eventually clogs.
