Do electric MGs pay IUC road tax in Portugal?

No. Fully electric cars are exempt from IUC and from ISV on import. A plug-in hybrid MG such as the HS does pay IUC.

How do I check the battery of a used MG4 or ZS EV?

Ask for a battery state-of-health report from an MG dealer or diagnostic tool. Compare the range on a full charge with the advertised figure and try a rapid charger to confirm it accepts normal power.

Which electric MG should I choose?

The MG4 is a rear-wheel-drive hatchback with good range, the ZS EV a small, practical SUV and the MG5 the pick for anyone needing an estate's boot. The Marvel R is a larger SUV, while the MG4 XPower and Cyberster focus on performance.
