Question 1

Is the ix35 the same as the Tucson?

Accepted Answer

Between 2009 and 2015 Hyundai sold its compact SUV in Europe as the ix35 before bringing back the Tucson name. They are the same line of car, so an ix35 is worth considering if you want an older, cheaper model.

Question 2

Hybrid or plug-in hybrid: which Tucson suits me?

Accepted Answer

The full hybrid charges itself and suits drivers who cannot plug in. The plug-in hybrid only makes sense if you can charge at home or at work regularly; otherwise you carry a heavy battery for little gain.

Question 3

What should I check on a plug-in hybrid Tucson?

Accepted Answer

Ask about the battery's condition, and check that the charging cable is included and that charging starts without errors. Confirm the remaining Hyundai warranty, which covers the high-voltage battery for longer than the rest of the car.

Question 4

Does a four-wheel-drive Tucson cost more to run?

Accepted Answer

Four-wheel-drive versions are usually heavier and use more fuel, which can mean higher CO2 figures and a higher IUC. Unless you need grip on rough tracks or in snow, a front-wheel-drive car is cheaper to own.
