Is the Citroën C4 AL4 automatic reliable?

The four-speed AL4 in the first generation is known for solenoid valve faults and harsh shifts when its oil is not changed. Ask for the gearbox's service history before buying.

What is the Citroën C4 ETG6 gearbox?

It is a single-clutch robotised manual, used in the second generation to cut fuel consumption. It shifts slowly and jerkily, so test it in traffic before buying.

Is the Citroën C4 EAT8 gearbox any good?

The eight-speed torque-converter EAT8 fitted to the more powerful versions of the 2020 C4 is smooth and quick. As with any automatic, regular oil changes extend its life.
