Which Audi A4 diesel engine is the most reliable?

The 2.0 TDI is the most common and, properly serviced, handles high mileages; the 3.0 TDI V6 is smoother but costlier to maintain. On both, the EGR valve and particulate filter are the parts to check.

Was the Audi A4 2.0 TDI affected by the emissions scandal?

Yes, many B8 A4s with the EA189-family 2.0 TDI were covered by Audi's software update campaign. On a used car, ask for proof that a dealer carried out the update.

Does an imported Audi A4 diesel pay ISV in Portugal?

Yes, an imported A4 pays ISV when it is registered in Portugal, and diesels carry a surcharge on that tax. On a car already on Portuguese plates it has been paid, but check the paperwork is in order.
