Question 1

Does every Touran have seven seats?

Accepted Answer

No. In both generations the third row was usually an extra-cost option, folding away into the boot floor. Check the car itself to see that both seats are there.

Question 2

Should I choose a diesel or petrol Touran?

Accepted Answer

The TDI comes into its own on long, loaded journeys. For mostly short town driving a TSI makes more sense: a recent petrol earns Crit'Air 1 while a diesel gets 2 at best, and the diesel particulate filter tends to clog on short runs.

Question 3

What are the Touran's known weak points?

Accepted Answer

The seven-speed dry-clutch DSG fitted to lower-powered versions can judder when pulling away, so feel for it on the test drive. On EA189 TDI engines from 2009 to 2015, ask for proof that the emissions recall software update was carried out.

Question 4

What paperwork does buying a Touran in France involve?

Accepted Answer

The seller hands over the registration certificate, the carte grise, and declares the sale online; you then register the Touran in your name. If the car is over four years old, it must come with a contrôle technique less than six months old.
