Question 1

What is the difference between a Tiguan eHybrid and an eTSI?

Accepted Answer

The eHybrid is a plug-in hybrid: it charges from a socket and can cover short trips on electricity alone. An eTSI is a mild hybrid whose small electrical system only assists the petrol engine, so it is never plugged in.

Question 2

Which Crit'Air sticker does a hybrid Tiguan get?

Accepted Answer

Both kinds run on petrol, so they get the Crit'Air 1 sticker rather than the green Crit'Air 0 reserved for fully electric cars. Crit'Air 1 is the best rating a car with a combustion engine can hold.

Question 3

Is a plug-in Tiguan worth it if I cannot charge at home?

Accepted Answer

Rarely. Without regular charging, the eHybrid carries the weight of its battery while running mostly on petrol, and its consumption can end up above that of a plain petrol Tiguan.

Question 4

What should I check on a used Tiguan eHybrid?

Accepted Answer

Ask for a battery health readout and check that the electric range shown when fully charged looks plausible. Make sure the charging cable comes with the car and that any battery-related recalls or software updates have been carried out by a Volkswagen dealer.
