Question 1

Is the battery of a used Toyota hybrid a worry?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's hybrid batteries have a good record of lasting the life of the car. A Toyota dealer can run a hybrid health check, and the brand extends its battery cover while the car keeps being serviced in its network, so the service history is worth asking for.

Question 2

Why does a Toyota hybrid sound loud when accelerating?

Accepted Answer

The gearbox holds the engine at a steady high speed while the car gathers pace, so it revs hard under full throttle. That is normal for the system and not a slipping clutch, since there is none; driven gently, it stays quiet.

Question 3

Which Crit'Air sticker does a Toyota hybrid get?

Accepted Answer

Toyota hybrids run on petrol, so those meeting Euro 5 or 6 normally get the Crit'Air 1 sticker, the best class short of an electric car. That covers both the self-charging and the plug-in versions.

Question 4

Toyota hybrid: self-charging or plug-in?

Accepted Answer

A self-charging hybrid never needs a socket and suits drivers who cannot charge at home. The plug-in Prius and RAV4 can cover daily trips on electricity, but only if they are charged, so check that the charging cable comes with the car.
