Question 1

Does an electric Smart get the green Crit'Air sticker?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every electric Smart, from the EQ fortwo to the #1 and #3, qualifies for the green zero-emission Crit'Air sticker, which opens every French low-emission zone. A petrol fortwo registered from 2011 gets Crit'Air 1.

Question 2

Is an electric Smart fortwo suited to longer trips?

Accepted Answer

The EQ fortwo and forfour carry a small battery designed for town driving, so their range suits commuting rather than motorway journeys. Some have the optional 22 kW onboard charger, which considerably shortens charging at a public AC point.

Question 3

What should I check on a petrol Smart fortwo's gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Earlier fortwos use an automated single-clutch gearbox whose slow, nodding gear changes are normal rather than a fault. The 2014 generation offers a manual or the twinamic dual-clutch, which should shift smoothly; hesitation there needs a closer look.

Question 4

Is the Smart forfour related to the Renault Twingo?

Accepted Answer

The forfour from 2014 shares its rear-engined platform with the third-generation Twingo, and both were built in the same plant in Slovenia. Many mechanical parts are common to the two cars.
