Question 1

Which Renault SUV suits a family?

Accepted Answer

The Captur fits a couple or a small family and is easy to park. The Kadjar and its successor, the Austral, offer more rear space and a larger boot, while the Koleos and the latest Espace are the largest of the range.

Question 2

Which Renault SUV engine should I be wary of?

Accepted Answer

The early 1.2 TCe petrol engine, fitted to the first-generation Captur and the Kadjar, is known for oil consumption and timing chain wear. Check the oil level, ask whether the issue was treated under warranty and listen for a rattle on a cold start.

Question 3

Is a used Renault E-Tech hybrid SUV a good buy?

Accepted Answer

The E-Tech full hybrid in the Captur, Arkana and Austral charges itself and needs no socket, which makes it well suited to town driving. As a petrol hybrid it normally gets the Crit'Air 1 sticker; a Blue dCi diesel gets Crit'Air 2.

Question 4

Are Renault SUVs four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

Most are front-wheel drive only. Four-wheel drive was offered on some Kadjar and Koleos versions, so a buyer who needs it for snow or tracks should confirm the exact version before viewing.
