Question 1

Which Renault petrol engine needs most care?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 TCe from the first half of the 2010s is known for excessive oil consumption, which can lead to serious engine damage. Check the oil level, ask for invoices and find out whether a Renault garage carried out the corrective work.

Question 2

Which Crit'Air sticker does a petrol Renault get?

Accepted Answer

Petrol cars first registered from 2011 get Crit'Air 1, accepted in nearly every low-emission zone. Those registered between 2006 and 2010 get Crit'Air 2, and older ones a class that faces more restrictions.

Question 3

Is a petrol Renault better than a diesel for town driving?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes: a petrol engine needs no long runs to clear a particulate filter, and it gets a better Crit'Air rating than a diesel of the same age. A diesel still makes sense for high motorway mileage.

Question 4

What paperwork comes with a used Renault in France?

Accepted Answer

The seller hands over the carte grise, crossed through and signed, a declaration of sale and, for cars over four years old, a contrôle technique less than six months old. The buyer then registers the car online through the ANTS.
