Question 1

Which Renault models come as an estate?

Accepted Answer

The Clio, Mégane, Laguna and Talisman have all been built in estate form, from the compact Clio Estate to the large Talisman Estate. The Mégane Estate was also offered as an E-Tech plug-in hybrid.

Question 2

Is there an estate version of the current Clio?

Accepted Answer

No, the fifth-generation Clio is a hatchback only, so a Clio Estate on the used market is a third- or fourth-generation car. Buyers wanting a newer Renault estate usually end up with the Mégane Estate.

Question 3

What should I check on a Renault estate with the 1.2 TCe engine?

Accepted Answer

Petrol Renaults with the 1.2 TCe from around the mid-2010s are known for excessive oil consumption, which in severe cases damages the engine. Ask how much oil the car uses between services and whether the engine has already been repaired.

Question 4

Diesel or petrol for a used Renault estate?

Accepted Answer

Estates often cover long distances with a full load, which suits the dCi diesels and lets their particulate filter regenerate. Mostly urban driving favours a TCe petrol, and Crit'Air gives a recent petrol a better class than any diesel.

Question 5

What paperwork does a used Renault estate need in France?

Accepted Answer

A car over four years old must come with a contrôle technique report less than six months old, and the seller hands over the certificat d'immatriculation crossed through and signed. The buyer then registers the car in their own name online.
