Which automatic gearbox does the Renault Espace use?

It depends on the generation. The Espace IV has a conventional six-speed automatic, the Espace V uses Renault's EDC dual-clutch gearbox, and the Espace VI hybrid has a clutchless multi-mode gearbox.

Is the EDC gearbox in the Renault Espace reliable?

It holds up well when it has been serviced. On a test drive, check that it pulls away smoothly and does not jolt in slow traffic, and ask whether software updates were applied.

What paperwork should I check when buying an automatic Renault Espace in France?

The certificat d'immatriculation (carte grise) must be in the seller's name. A car over four years old needs a contrôle technique less than six months old, and its Crit'Air sticker decides access to low-emission zones.
