Question 1

Which Cayenne generation should I look at?

Accepted Answer

The first generation, sold from 2002, is the cheapest to buy but the most demanding to maintain. The second, from 2010, is lighter and was the first offered as a plug-in hybrid, while the third, from 2017, added the Coupé body.

Question 2

Is a diesel Cayenne still worth buying?

Accepted Answer

Diesel versions belong to the earlier generations, as Porsche dropped them from the third. A Euro 5 or Euro 6 diesel gets a Crit'Air 2 sticker, so check the low-emission zones (ZFE) you drive in before choosing one.

Question 3

What should I check on a Cayenne E-Hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Ask how it has been charged and whether the charging cable comes with it, and look at the electric range it still achieves. Being a plug-in hybrid, it carries a Crit'Air 1 sticker.

Question 4

Does an imported Cayenne pay the malus in France?

Accepted Answer

A used car registered in France for the first time can owe the malus écologique, reduced according to its age. On a Cayenne the amount can be large, so get it calculated before buying abroad.

Question 5

Which parts are costly to replace on a Porsche Cayenne?

Accepted Answer

Air suspension, brakes and large-diameter tyres are the usual big bills on a Cayenne. On first-generation V8s, ask whether the original plastic coolant pipes have been replaced.
