Question 1

Which Crit'Air sticker does a diesel Mini get?

Accepted Answer

A Euro 5 or Euro 6 diesel Mini gets Crit'Air 2 at best, and an older Euro 4 car Crit'Air 3. The Euro standard is shown in field V.9 of the carte grise, and each low-emission zone (ZFE) sets its own rules on which stickers may enter.

Question 2

Is a diesel Mini a good choice for town driving?

Accepted Answer

Mostly short trips stop the particle filter from regenerating, which can lead to clogging and costly repairs. A diesel Mini suits drivers who regularly cover longer distances; for town use a petrol or electric Mini is usually the better fit.

Question 3

Which engines do diesel Minis use?

Accepted Answer

The second-generation Mini first used a PSA 1.6 HDi diesel, then BMW's own engines took over, including the 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder of later models. Ask which engine is fitted, as running costs and known issues differ.

Question 4

What paperwork comes with a used diesel Mini?

Accepted Answer

For a car over four years old, the seller must provide a contrôle technique report less than six months old, along with the signed certificat de cession. The buyer then registers the carte grise online with the ANTS.
