Question 1

Which Crit'Air sticker does a petrol Mercedes-Benz get?

Accepted Answer

A petrol car first registered from 2011 onwards meets Euro 5 or Euro 6 and gets Crit'Air 1. One registered between 2006 and 2010 gets Crit'Air 2, and older ones a higher number, which limits access to low-emission zones.

Question 2

Why does the carte grise cost more on some petrol Mercedes-Benz models?

Accepted Answer

The regional tax on the certificat d'immatriculation is based on fiscal horsepower, which rises with engine power and CO2 emissions. A large-engined C-Class, E-Class or AMG therefore costs much more to register than an A-Class with a small petrol engine.

Question 3

Is a petrol Mercedes-Benz a better choice than a diesel in France?

Accepted Answer

For mostly urban driving and access to low-emission zones it usually is, since a recent petrol car gets Crit'Air 1 while a diesel gets Crit'Air 2 at best. Over long motorway distances, a diesel uses less fuel.

Question 4

Does a used petrol Mercedes-Benz need a contrôle technique?

Accepted Answer

If it is over four years old, yes: the seller must hand over a contrôle technique report less than six months old. A younger car can be sold without one.
