Question 1

Which Mercedes-Benz estates are there?

Accepted Answer

The C-Class Estate is the compact choice and the E-Class Estate the roomier one. The CLA Shooting Brake trades some load space for a lower roofline, and several versions come with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Question 2

What should I check on a diesel Mercedes estate?

Accepted Answer

Recent Mercedes diesels use AdBlue to clean their exhaust, so make sure no warning shows on the dash and ask whether the tank, pump or heater has been replaced. A Euro 6 diesel carries a Crit'Air 2 sticker, so check the rules of the zones you need to enter.

Question 3

Does the plug-in hybrid estate lose boot space?

Accepted Answer

On plug-in hybrid versions the battery sits at the rear, which can raise the boot floor or leave a step in it. If you carry bulky loads, compare the boot with a diesel version before buying.

Question 4

Is the self-levelling suspension worth checking on a Mercedes estate?

Accepted Answer

Many E-Class Estates have self-levelling or air suspension at the rear to keep the car level when loaded. Check that it sits evenly after standing overnight and that no suspension warning appears.
