Question 1

What should I check on a car from the Landes coast?

Accepted Answer

Look under the car and in the wheel arches for rust, at the windscreen and front paint for pitting from blown sand, and under the boot floor for damp. Wet wetsuits and boards leave their mark on the upholstery and the load area.

Question 2

Which roads cross the Landes?

Accepted Answer

The A63 motorway, tolled through the department, runs from Bordeaux to Bayonne and the Spanish border, and the A65, also tolled, links Langon with Pau via Mont-de-Marsan. Between the coast and the interior, most journeys use country roads.

Question 3

What does a carte grise cost in the Landes?

Accepted Answer

Nouvelle-Aquitaine sets the regional rate per fiscal horsepower, so it is identical everywhere in the department, and fixed national fees are added. The online simulator gives the exact amount for a given car.

Question 4

Does a car bought in the Landes need a contrôle technique?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if it is over four years old: the seller must provide a contrôle technique report less than six months old. A report listing major defects means a repair and a counter-visit within two months.
