Question 1

What should I check on a Jeep with the nine-speed automatic?

Accepted Answer

Ask whether the gearbox software updates have been carried out, as early versions were criticised for hesitant and jerky shifts. On a test drive, accelerate gently from low speed, which is where poor shifting shows most.

Question 2

What should I look at on a Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Check that the charging cable is included and that the car charges properly, and ask how it was used: one driven mostly on petrol got little benefit from its battery. A manufacturer battery warranty that is still running stays with the car.

Question 3

Which Crit'Air sticker does an automatic Jeep get?

Accepted Answer

The gearbox plays no part: the sticker depends on the fuel and the Euro standard. A Euro 5 or 6 diesel gets Crit'Air 2, a Euro 5 or 6 petrol or plug-in hybrid Crit'Air 1, and the electric Avenger the green sticker.

Question 4

Why does the carte grise for a Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee cost more?

Accepted Answer

The regional part of the carte grise fee is charged per fiscal horsepower, so a large-engined Jeep costs noticeably more to register than a small Avenger or Renegade. Each region sets its own rate per fiscal horsepower.
