Question 1

Can I drive a Ford Transit on a car licence?

Accepted Answer

A B licence covers versions with a gross vehicle weight up to 3.5 tonnes, shown in field F.2 of the carte grise. Heavier Transits need a C1 licence, and a minibus with more than eight passenger seats needs a D1.

Question 2

How does the Transit differ from the Transit Custom and Transit Connect?

Accepted Answer

The Transit is the large van, offered in several lengths and heights and with rear- or four-wheel drive. The Transit Custom is the mid-sized van and the Transit Connect the compact one, each a separate model.

Question 3

Which inspections and stickers apply to a used Transit?

Accepted Answer

A Transit registered as a light commercial vehicle has a contrôle technique every two years and an emissions check in the year between. Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesels carry Crit'Air 2, and the E-Transit gets the green zero-emission sticker.

Question 4

Can a business recover VAT on a used Transit?

Accepted Answer

VAT on a utility vehicle bought for business use is generally recoverable in France, which is not the case for passenger cars. It applies only when the invoice shows VAT, which it does not under a dealer's margin scheme or in a private sale.
