Question 1

What should I check on a Kuga plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Early plug-in hybrids were recalled in 2020 over a risk of the battery overheating, so ask for proof the work was done. Check the charging cable is included and ask for a battery health reading.

Question 2

Kuga plug-in hybrid or full hybrid?

Accepted Answer

The plug-in hybrid can cover short daily trips on electricity if you charge it at home or at work. The full hybrid charges itself while driving and needs no socket, which suits drivers without easy access to charging.

Question 3

Do second-generation Kuga EcoBoost petrol engines have problems?

Accepted Answer

Some 1.5 and 1.6 EcoBoost engines from that era suffered coolant loss and overheating, and several were subject to recalls. Ask for the invoices, check the coolant level and have a Ford dealer confirm the recall history.

Question 4

Is four-wheel drive worth having on a Kuga?

Accepted Answer

Four-wheel drive was offered with selected engines in every generation. It helps on snowy mountain roads and when towing, at some cost in fuel, and a car driven mainly in town rarely needs it.
